An Amazing Experience on Some of the Finest Hunting Ground on Earth

Plains game hunting in South Africa delivers unmatched variety and value for rifle and bow hunters seeking African game trophy animals on the continent. Our team operates across prime hunting areas in the Eastern Cape, Limpopo Province, and North West Bushveld — well-known regions where healthy populations of antelope species are found in their natural habitat. These are not fenced reserves where animals are shot over a short distance. We are talking about expansive, free-range concessions across thousands of acres of mountain, bush, savanna, and Kalahari ground where game animals roam as they always have.

We've guided hundreds of first-time African hunters and seasoned safari veterans. Our professional hunters hold decades of combined experience tracking kudu through mountain terrain, stalking gemsbok on open plains, and pursuing blue wildebeest and black wildebeest across the savanna. A good hunting plains game package in South Africa can include buffalo, eland, sable, springbok, oryx, reedbuck, waterbuck, and much more — designed to give you the best possible value and the most exciting days in the field. Don't hesitate to get in touch if you're interested in building a custom game hunting package.

Transparent pricing. Your price list shows exactly what is included. We handle rifle permits and firearm license paperwork, internal transportation, and taxidermy coordination so you can focus on the hunt itself. Trophy fees are listed clearly — you pay for what you take, and nothing more. Our Privacy Policy governs how we manage your information and booking details, and our team is committed to a smooth, professional experience from the first email to the moment you board the plane home.

01

Diverse Species Selection

Hunt over 30 plains game species — kudu, gemsbok, blue wildebeest, black wildebeest, impala, blesbok, eland, springbok, reedbuck, warthog, and more — across terrain from the Eastern Cape to Limpopo. Cull hunts and high-quality trophy opportunities are available for most species listed.

02

Fair Chase Hunting

All hunts take place on expansive free-range concessions where game animals roam freely. Hunting plains game on foot — walking, glassing, and stalking — is the only way we operate. It is considered one of the most exciting and rewarding forms of hunting on the continent.

03

Experienced Professional Hunters

Each safari pairs you with a licensed PH who knows the land, reads animal behaviour, and positions you for ethical shot opportunities. Glen Fyffe and Stephan Kleinhans — 45 years combined — lead every hunt personally. You will not be handed off to a junior guide.

04

All-Inclusive Safari Packages

Your game hunting package covers comfortable lodge accommodation, daily meals, coffee and evening wine, field preparation of trophies, and transportation throughout your stay. A few days in an African bush camp with good food and amazing adventures is an experience you will not forget.

05

Year-Round Hunting Season

South Africa's climate allows plains game hunting twelve months a year. Peak season runs May through September when animals concentrate around water in the dry winter. Late afternoon light across the Bushveld during this time of year is breathtaking — bring your photo gear as well as your rifle.

06

Big Game & Big Five Opportunities

Don't get the idea that plains game is all we offer. Hunt South African is licensed for Big Five dangerous game hunting as well. Cape buffalo hunts are available across our Limpopo concessions — considered one of the most demanding and rewarding big game pursuits on earth. Enquire for details.

Over 30 Huntable Species Found Across Our Concessions

South Africa is considered one of the most diverse hunting destinations on earth. The game species found on our areas span the full spectrum — from the iconic to the rare. Some, like the blue duiker and red duiker, require patience and a very good eye. Others, like the kudu bull and eland, demand days of careful tracking through broken ground before a shot opportunity is given. There are a few species — baboon, jackal, and hyena — that are hunted on a cull basis as part of responsible wildlife management. Bushpig and grysbok are exciting night options at the right time of year.

Walk & Stalk

The Most Exciting Form of Hunting on the Continent

Closing the distance on a mature kudu bull through thick Bushveld cover is considered one of hunting's greatest challenges — and one of its greatest rewards. Our professional hunters know exactly where to find them, what the late afternoon wind will do, and how to get you into a perfect shooting position without breaking a stick.

Hunter in South Africa

Whether You're a First-Time Hunter or a Safari Veteran

Plains game hunting in South Africa is accessible to hunters at every level, but don't skip to the idea that it is easy. African antelope have incredible eyesight and hearing — out in the open Kalahari or on the mountains of the Eastern Cape, getting to a good shooting position on a mature bull is very high on the list of challenges even experienced hunters have to work for. Our team at Hunt South African is designed to deliver an amazing experience regardless of your background.

First-time Africa hunting clients often start with a short package in impala, blesbok, and blue wildebeest before moving on to premium species like kudu or sable. A few days on the ground is enough to understand why this continent gets into your blood. Seasoned hunters who have hunted elk in the western United States often say an elk hunt doesn't prepare you for the pace, the heat, and the sheer variety of a well-run South African plains game hunt. It is a must for any serious trophy hunter.

Non-hunters are welcome too. Family groups enjoy the lodge, game viewing, photo safaris, and cultural excursions while hunters pursue trophies in the surrounding areas. Evenings bring everyone together at the lodge for shared meals, stories, and a well-earned glass of wine as the African sunset fades off in the distance.

Affordable International Hunting With No Hidden Fees

Plains game hunting packages in South Africa cost less than most guided elk hunts in the western United States. When you factor in the all-inclusive nature of African safaris — a lodge in prime hunting area, daily meals and coffee, professional hunter fees, field preparation, and multiple game animals taken — the value becomes clear. There are very few places on earth where you can enjoy a hunt of this quality at this price point.

A seven-day hunt with five to seven animals typically ranges from $4,000 to $8,000 for daily rates and trophy fees combined. Premium species like sable and roan antelope add cost to any package in line with their rarity and the effort required to hunt them at trophy quality. Don't hesitate to ask — we will find the right package for your budget and make sure you are prepared to get the most out of every day.

Firearm and rifle import: South Africa allows temporary firearm importation for hunting purposes. You'll need a police authorisation letter — we help you obtain this before travel. Most hunters bring bolt-action rifles in calibers from .270 Winchester through .375 H&H. The lodge also maintains quality rifles for client use if you prefer not to travel with your own firearms. Don't let the permit process put you off — it is a smooth process when handled correctly, and we've done it hundreds of times.

01

Consultation & Species Selection

Contact our team to discuss your trophy goals, physical abilities, and budget. We'll recommend hunting areas based on which plains game species you want to hunt. First-time hunters often start with impala, blesbok, and blue wildebeest before adding premium species like kudu or sable.

02

Booking & Documentation

Once you select your package, we secure your dates with a deposit. Our staff provides detailed information about rifle import permits, firearm license requirements, flight arrangements, and packing lists for the Bushveld climate and your specific hunting area.

03

Arrival & Orientation

We collect you at the airport — by private plane where arranged — and transport you to the hunting lodge. Your professional hunter reviews safety protocols, confirms rifle zero at the shooting range, and discusses hunting strategies for each species on your list.

04

Daily Hunting Operations

Each morning starts early — coffee at camp, then out to the hunting area on foot. You'll glass ridgelines, check water sources, and follow fresh tracks. Your hunter will position you for shots within your comfortable range, typically 100 to 250 yards for rifle hunters.

05

Trophy Care & Departure

Field staff cape and prepare your trophies immediately after a game trophy is taken. We coordinate with taxidermists for dip-and-pack services or full mounts. On your final day, we transport you back to the airport with memories, photos, and a hunt you will talk about for years.

Popular choices include kudu, gemsbok, blue wildebeest, black wildebeest, impala, blesbok, eland, springbok, zebra, waterbuck, red hartebeest, nyala, reedbuck, warthog, and sable antelope. Cull species like baboon, jackal, and hyena are also available. The Eastern Cape excels for kudu while Limpopo Province is well-known for excellent bushbuck, nyala, and big game hunting including cape buffalo and elephant.
Plains game hunting runs year-round in South Africa. The dry winter months from May through September concentrate animals around water sources, making them easier to locate and stalk. Late afternoon in this season is an amazing experience — the light across the Bushveld and Kalahari is unlike anything else on earth. Summer hunts from November through March feature lush green vegetation and rutting activity for certain species.
Package prices vary based on species selection and hunt duration. A seven-day hunt with five to seven animals typically ranges from $4,000 to $8,000 for daily rates and trophy fees combined. This is considerably less than a comparable guided elk hunt in the western United States, and the all-inclusive nature of the package means very few additional costs. Premium species like sable and roan antelope add significant cost to any package in line with their trophy quality and rarity. Don't hesitate to get in touch — we will find a package in the right range for your budget.
Yes. South Africa permits temporary rifle and firearm importation for hunting purposes. You'll need a police authorisation letter, which we help you obtain before travel. Most hunters bring bolt-action rifles in calibers from .270 Winchester through .375 H&H. The lodge also maintains quality backup rifles and firearms for client use. The permit process is smooth when handled by an experienced outfitter — we've done it hundreds of times and will make sure you are prepared.
Field preparation — skinning, salting, and caping — is included with your hunt. Full taxidermy mounts, dip-and-pack services, and shipping to your home country require separate arrangements with licensed taxidermists. We coordinate these services and provide cost estimates before your arrival. Nothing is done without your knowledge and agreement — there are no forbidden access charges or surprise fees added at the end.
Difficulty varies by terrain and hunting style. Some hunts require walking five to ten miles daily through mountainous or broken ground. Others involve shorter stalks from vehicle drop points across more open Kalahari or savanna habitat. Share your fitness level and any physical limitations during consultation — we'll match you with the most appropriate hunting area and design your days in the field around what works best for you. An interesting option for those who prefer a different pace is hunting from well-positioned blinds at waterholes in the late afternoon.
Yes. Hunt South African holds a Big Five dangerous game licence and offers Cape buffalo, elephant, hippo, and other dangerous game hunts across our Limpopo concessions. These are not short-cut guided shoots — Stephan Kleinhans leads all dangerous game hunts personally and is considered one of the most experienced buffalo-on-foot guides in the northern provinces.
